ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Indiana Conservation Officers recovered the body of 27-year-old Keynner Lugo at 7:49 a.m. Tuesday from Monroe Lake—about 200 yards from where he was last seen trying to reach shore near Allen's Creek—after boaters were unable to rescue him, and the investigation remains active.  The Bloomingtonian

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Indiana-based Homefield Apparel opened its first brick-and-mortar store on Kirkwood Avenue Tuesday—located steps from IU and home to the historic Tracks record store—and celebrated its local roots with IU merchandise and a revived bison logo given to the first 100 customers. The store will host a block party on Friday—part of IU Welcome Week—to further honor its connection with the community.  WRTV
  • Homefield Apparel held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday to celebrate the grand opening of its first retail store in Bloomington—marking the company’s new step into retail business. CRIME NEWS

  • Randy Francis, a convicted felon with a 2009 child molestation conviction that bars him from gun ownership, faces charges after he allegedly fired his pistol multiple times at a man walking on the B-Line Trail near Country Club Drive just after midnight Aug. 14—authorities said he will appear in court today for a bail review and that police recovered two guns in his backpack.  WTHR
  • Local disability activist Lesamarie Hacker was hospitalized after her car was struck on North Tunnel Road last weekend when Donald C. Andreoni, a 75-year-old suspect arrested on Aug. 16 for driving while intoxicated with a passenger under 18, caused the crash; she suffered internal bruising, whiplash, a concussion and a displaced cervical disc while her twin 5-year-old granddaughters were unharmed.  The Bloomingtonian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Monroe County Justice Building is closed until Thursday for mold remediation — this closure affects county courts, the prosecutor’s office, public defender, probation and clerk offices while cleanup continues; people with scheduled hearings are asked to call the court on Thursday morning to reschedule.  WTHR
  • Bloomington is set to name the area around Millers-Showers Park the Stadium District as new apartments, shops, and public improvements transform the neighborhood. City staff are drafting legislation & planning a public art gateway piece to attract visitors and support economic growth.  The Herald-Times
  • Monroe County sent letters on July 8 to tenants renting on land donated by the Nancy Huntington trust and required them to leave by Oct. 1 so the land can be used for recreation. Tenants asked for more time to move—county officials say the trust rules demand a quick conversion of the property.  The B Square Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana football's preseason ticket sales have reached a new record with over $13 million, fueled by a 50% rise in sales and a sold-out student section ahead of the season opener against Old Dominion. The team has revived local traditions as fans support rally towel displays at Memorial Stadium for the upcoming 2025 home games.  The Herald-Times
