EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three Indiana University professors have received $25,000 each from the GapFund—run by the IU Innovation and Commercialization Office—to help turn their early stage research projects into products that attract investors in artificial intelligence, metal protection, and glyphosate testing. Applications for the next round of grants opened August 15 and will close October 15. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ Indiana University suspended the Palestine Solidarity Committee after claims that the group caused disruptions and property damage during the past two school years & it must cancel all events, submit a current roster, and meet with conduct officials before fall classes start. A faculty adviser said the vague allegations could raise free speech issues. The Herald-Times
- ➤ Indiana University now lets students order parking permits online for the 2025-26 academic year while changing its garage parking policy so undergraduates must use hourly parking and graduate students will join a waitlist for $250 permits valid until Jan. 18. The new system also offers ST and CH permits for parking near major venues (including Memorial Stadium and Assembly Hall) and sets clear rates and rules to help avoid fines. The Herald-Times

- ➤ Bloomington’s appeal of the annexation ruling continued Tuesday as three appeals judges questioned city attorney Stephen Unger and remonstrators’ lawyer William Beggs about whether the urbanized areas meet state law rules and serve the best interest of property owners — the judges focused on waiver counts and statutory interpretation and will issue their opinion soon. - ➤ Bloomington South’s volleyball team defeated Edgewood 25-12, 25-17, 25-10 on Tuesday at home to improve to a 4-0 record; coach Emma Abplanalp said the Panthers’ mix of five seniors and six juniors delivered solid serves and passes—key to their win. The Herald-Times
- ➤ Indiana Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti starts the season with a familiar playbook by naming experienced transfer quarterback Fernando Mendoza and returning players from James Madison to build a team aimed at a Big Ten title and playoff spot.
