CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Bloomington man is facing many felony charges after he displayed a handgun and threatened a mass shooting at Night Moves on S. Walnut St. last week—police say he resisted arrest and tried to grab an officer’s Taser. The Bloomingtonian
- ➤ A 44-year-old man was arrested on Aug. 14 on the B Line Trail after he fired his handgun at a stranger using a green laser pointer, and he now faces felony charges for unlawful firearm possession, intimidation and reckless behavior—charges that follow the victim's report of fearing for his life. - ➤ Single tickets for the 2025—2026 IU Auditorium season went on sale August 18 and are available online or at the box office at 1211 E. Seventh St. Tickets range from $20 to over $100 and include shows such as Beetlejuice, The Book of Mormon, and Mrs. Doubtfire. The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At Monroe County’s board meeting on Aug. 20, officials shared updates on the Bloomington convention center expansion including a new butterfly-inspired logo in Bloomington red and limestone gray, plans for a $520,000 public art project with feedback sessions starting mid-September, and progress on a hotel project that may offer below-grade parking—pending design work and soil insights. - ➤ Mold was discovered in the Zietlow Justice Center, prompting temporary closures and raising health concerns after air quality tests found high levels of spores. VET Environmental Engineering will work from Friday evening through Sunday to remove contaminated materials—county officials say the plan will address employee concerns. The Herald-Times
- ➤ Bloomington Transit testing at a potential site for its new operations center showed 9 of 10 borings to be clean—one sample tested positive for PCBs, so BT will conduct 10 additional borings to gauge the extent of contamination and approved an extra $55,000 for this work. - ➤ Bloomington area's high school football season began Friday at 7 p.m. with Bloomington North debuting new coach Brett Cooper against Mooresville and state-ranked Bloomington South hosting Columbus East—Edgewood, Eastern Greene and Owen Valley also opened their seasons in action. - ➤ Bloomington North lost 28—14 to Mooresville in their home opener after a 14-point lead slipped away because of two big special teams errors. Coach Brett Cooper said the team will work on fixing the mistakes over the weekend to prepare for upcoming games. The Herald-Times
