- ➤ On Aug. 22, a man died after being struck by a train on Bloomington’s west side when police arrived at 5:15 p.m. at a train bridge between Bloomfield Road and Third Street overpasses—after the engineer blew the horn and attempted an emergency stop—where officers also found a damaged bicycle. - ➤ Today, a person was shot in the leg near the intersection of 10th Street and Walnut Grove on Indiana University campus—police quickly responded with a shelter-in-place order and later arrested a suspect. WRTV
- ➤ Twelve people faced drug charges after Indiana State Police and Bloomington Police Department searched two homes on Aug.22 in the 500 block of West Terry Lane and the 400 block of North Fairview Street—both within 500 feet of a school or park—and recovered cocaine, crack, heroin, more than 1.5 pounds of meth, six guns, and over $13,500 in cash. - ➤ Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti kept nearly all his assistant coaches and key players after a strong 2024 season by signing a new contract extension that pays him $8 million a year through 2032 and fended off transfer rumors and outside offers. - ➤ Indiana’s athletic department signed a 20-year, $50 million naming rights deal on Thursday to rename Memorial Stadium as Merchants Bank Field — a change sparked by last season’s College Football Playoff run. Merchants Bank will offer free financial literacy training for student-athletes, and the new name will appear when the 20th-ranked Hoosiers host Old Dominion on Aug. 30 — marking a key shift in the program.
