  • Lower Cascades Park was established in 1921 to protect a scenic strip of land and now covers 93.9 acres at 2851 N. Old Ind. 37, where visitors can use its wooden boardwalk—trails, a playground, and a sparkling waterfall—to enjoy nature and local history.  The Herald-Times
  • The City of Bloomington Volunteer Fair will be held Sept 6 at Fernandez Plaza in front of City Hall from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.—if the weather is poor, the fair will move inside the City Hall Atrium. Local groups need volunteers for Boys & Girls Club and Head Start programs, and the Animal Shelter accepts donations at 3410 S. Walnut St.—residents can sign up or drop off items to help their community.  The Herald-Times

  • Monroe County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man in his mid-20s with dark curly hair after he allegedly assaulted a woman on Karst Farm Greenway Trail near Grandview Elementary School on Friday—she said he grabbed her shirt and pulled it over her head before fleeing.  The Bloomingtonian

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bloomington-based photographer Kathryn Coers Rossman contributed a new photo series to The Bloomingtonian that captured the game day atmosphere at Memorial Stadium during IU’s win over Old Dominion on August 30—her images show IU cheerleaders, the Marching Hundred and IU President Pamela Whitten on the sidelines. She will continue the series during IU’s first three nonconference games.  The Bloomingtonian

ECONOMY NEWS

  • IU and Cook Medical signed a five-year agreement to translate IU research into real-world solutions that will boost innovation, workforce training and Indiana’s economy—IU LAB will serve as the single point for coordinating projects across IU’s nine campuses. The partnership covers research services, technical certifications and other collaborative efforts aimed at solving real-world challenges.  Indiana University

  • Bloomington is removing Trees of Heaven from city property to help stop the invasive spotted lanternfly—an insect that threatens fruit and soybean crops. The urban forestry department is cutting down one at 4th and Dunn Streets while MC-IRIS offers free checks and up to $400 reimbursement for private removals.  WRTV

  • Indiana football dropped two spots to No. 21 in the US LMB Coaches Poll after a 27—14 win over Old Dominion and will face Kennesaw State on Saturday at noon in their first meeting.  The Herald-Times
