BUSINESS NEWS

  • Downtown tea shop Cup and Kettle Tea Co., run by Jessica Messmer, lost 80% of its walk-in traffic and over $100k in revenue when scaffolding blocked its windows and reduced daily transactions from 60 to about 10. In response, the owner is selling a limited edition ScaffoldTEA blend—available with different support tiers—to help keep the shop open until repairs on the adjacent building are completed.  The Herald-Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Bloomington police ask for help finding 83-year-old Margaret Cannon, who was last seen on Sept. 3 at her home on South Kimble Drive while walking on foot; she wore a bright-colored shirt, beige pants and uses a purple cane — anyone with information should call 911.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bloomington is hosting a busy weekend of events including a free Gallery Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. today, a three-day Aviation Weekend at Monroe County Airport with film showings and reserved flight rides, a Saturday plant sale at Switchyard Park, a free movie at Bryan Park, and a jazz concert on Sunday evening — offering plenty of choices for local fun. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana University reported that its research spending exceeded $1 billion in fiscal year 2025, with $942.2 million in sponsored awards and a 34% increase since fiscal year 2021 — a milestone that boosts local innovation and supports Indiana’s workforce. This achievement confirms IU's role as a research leader in driving discoveries that benefit Hoosier communities.  Indiana University
  • A columnist from IU highlights three underrated campus spots — the spacious common room in the Biology Building, a sunny rooftop patio at Goodbody Hall, and bright study areas at Luddy School of Informatics, which offer quiet spaces for work and relaxation.  Indiana Daily Student

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana Department of Natural Resources said on Sept. 2 that freshwater jellyfish have been spotted in lakes, ponds, and streams across Indiana during late summer. They noted that the tiny creatures—about the size of a dime—do not hurt swimmers because their stinging cells are too small to cause harm.  The Herald-Times
  • On Wednesday, the City Council passed a resolution for Bloomington to apply for Bee City USA certification to boost local efforts for protecting pollinators—community members will form a planning committee to host annual pollinator events and prepare progress reports from the Parks and Recreation Department.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bloomington City Hall will host the Youth Leadership Summit on September 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the free event will excuse registered middle and high school students from class and offer panel discussions and workshops with speakers like Patrick D. Smith. The Summit is designed to empower African American and Latino male students while welcoming all youth.  City of Bloomington

SPORTS NEWS

  • Collins Oduro scored the 7th minute goal to secure a 1-0 win for Indiana over Saint Louis, and coach Todd Yeagley said this early play boosted team confidence (Oduro played 68 minutes). Indiana will face Notre Dame on Sep. 7 at 7:30 p.m.  Indiana Daily Student
  • The Associated Press released the Indiana high school football poll for Week 3 on September 3 and ranked Bloomington South (2-0) third in Class 5A, while Brownsburg led Class 6A and New Palestine topped Class 5A. The poll listed results for several classes and showed team records and points scored.  WTHR
