GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its meeting on Monday, the plan commission recommended amending the Unified Development Ordinance to allow single room occupancy housing with a maximum of three bedrooms in residential zones R1 to R4, a limit of two adults per bedroom, and a rule that requires the property owner to live on site. The proposal, which aims to expand low-cost housing options and includes clearer safety definitions, will be considered by the city council in the coming weeks — addressing community concerns about density and student rentals.  The B Square Bulletin

Single mothers and day care owners said the cuts — which may force hard choices for families — risk losing essential child care help.  WTHR
  • Indiana’s specialty license plate program has raised nearly $200 million for charities since 2007 with almost 8 million plates sold for groups like Indiana University and Purdue, while new rules under House Enrolled Act 1390—doubling signature and sales requirements—may force groups already struggling to meet targets to face probation or a two-year wait to reapply.  The Herald-Times
