CULTURE NEWS

  • Next to Normal, the Tony Award and Pulitzer-winning rock musical, runs at Constellation Stage & Screen's Waldron Auditorium until Sept. 21—this intense show tells a family's fight with mental illness, loss and healing through live band music while director Kate Galvin and IU juniors lead the heartfelt performance.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana teachers spend about $1,445 on classroom supplies from their own funds this year, which is more than many teachers in other states spend; thirty percent have taken on second jobs to help cover rising costs.  The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On September 14, 2025, Indiana University hosted a vigil for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, held by Turning Point USA at the Memorial Union with tight security including a BearCat—state and federal officials prayed and read statements as more than 100 community members gathered to honor his legacy. Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith said he prayed for Kirk and the suspect, and the event remained peaceful despite earlier media access challenges.  The Bloomingtonian
  • The Monroe County Council will address an $8M deficit in its draft 2026 budget during its meeting today at 5 p.m.—the draft shows $135.7M in expenses against $127.7M in revenues and council members will review spending on capital, travel and overtime.  The B Square Bulletin

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Saturn will reach its closest approach to Earth on Sunday, Sept. 21 — offering a rare view of its rings for stargazers with a telescope — and locals are advised to check the forecast as showers may bring clouds later in the evening.  The Herald-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana running back Lee Beebe Jr. is out for the season after suffering a non-contact knee injury against Indiana State in a win (73 to 0), as Coach Curt Cignetti announced Monday afternoon; the team will shift workload to backs Roman Hemby, Kaelon Black, and redshirt freshman Khobie Martin.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana football wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after he recorded career bests with 10 catches, 207 yards and four touchdowns in a 73 to 0 win over Indiana State. The No. 19 Hoosiers improved to 3 to 0 and he tied the school's single-game touchdown record which boosted the team's confidence for their game against Illinois—his strong play may set the stage for more success.  The Herald-Times
  • A 20-year-old man bought a customized 1961 Oldsmobile 88 convertible called the Topless Rocket after finding it on Facebook Marketplace in Freedom, Indiana — he paid $4,000 cash and drove it home to Bloomington where it will serve as his tailgate car for Indiana University football games. This uniquely modified car has a 394 V-8 engine and distinctive gold and cream accents that set it apart.  The Herald-Times
