BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bloomington native and IU grad Kelsey Webber opened Three Blondes Floral Co. in downtown Bloomington — named for her three daughters — and the shop offers a flower bar, grab-and-go bouquets, subscriptions and design workshops using local blooms.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Sunday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m., brothers Jason and Jim Halliday will present the free 45-minute film Refractions: Dark Side of the Moon Revisited at Monroe County Public Library’s auditorium. The film shows their new interpretation of the iconic Pink Floyd album paired with original visual elements.  The Bloomingtonian
  • Bloomington band The Cowboys will release their new album Captain Easy’s Downfall tomorrow, Sept. 19 which blends punk energy — early ’80s power pop sound with catchy guitar riffs. The band recorded the album in Cincinnati — Mexico City and is self-releasing it to honor Bloomington’s DIY rock scene.  The Bloomingtonian
  • This weekend, Bloomington residents can enjoy Oktoberfest celebrations at two local breweries—Bloomington Brewing Company on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Heartwork Brewing from Friday through Sunday, a downtown library Big Book Sale on Friday and Saturday with free items available Monday, a free screening of a John Waters classic at IU Cinema on Friday at 10 p.m., and a free jazz performance at Dunn Meadow on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Stand-up comedian Colin Jost will perform on Sunday at 7 p.m. at IU Auditorium.  The Herald-Times
  • Bloomington-based Funny Times, an independent cartoon and humor publication, will launch a 10-episode podcast on Oct. 3 to mark its 40th anniversary & celebrate its long legacy. The series will feature interviews with cartoonists, writers and readers and be hosted by local editor Mia Beach.  The Bloomingtonian

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Chad Bollhorst, a lifelong Bloomington resident and parent, criticized Richland-Bean Blossom Schools for preventing Edgewood teams from competing against Seven Oaks athletes, saying the rule hurts kids by limiting fair competition—he urged school leaders to change the policy so every child can play and learn teamwork.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The bathrooms at the 4th Street parking garage reopened in early August (after repeated vandalism) and are now available for public use, public works director Adam Wason said (fingers crossed).  The B Square Bulletin
  • Since demolishing the old NAPA Auto Parts building in July, construction on the Bloomington Convention Center expansion has continued and project manager Andrew Scere said concrete will be poured for footings Friday—marking a major step in the work. The city council approved a resolution on Sept 17 to ask the food and beverage tax advisory commission to review funding for the capital improvement board’s 2026 budget—approved with an 8—1 vote.  The B Square Bulletin
  • Monroe County council spent over three hours on Tuesday night revising the draft 2026 budget, cutting more than $4M to lower the deficit from about $8M to $3.88M. The council also shifted 15 health department jobs back to state-funded lines to free nearly $1M from property tax levy funds—final budget adoption is set for Oct. 14th.  The B Square Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • A media campaign launched yesterday to alert Monroe County residents to call the Stride Center for 24/7 mental health and substance use crisis support—using billboards, bus signs, social media, newspapers, radio, and bathroom ads to spread the message 'See someone struggling? Call Stride.'  The Bloomingtonian

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Nick's English Hut in Bloomington and South Bend’s Linebacker Lounge made The Athletic's top 10 college bars list for 2025—Nick's, open since 1929 near IU, is known for a college game and family meals while the South Bend bar, founded in 1962 by a former Notre Dame linebacker, is close to the stadium.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana restaurants now offer birthday freebies—free desserts and special deals—to customers born on some of the most common September dates, with offers typically available through rewards programs or sign-ups.  The Herald-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bloomington South's football receivers are hard to cover and tough to catch as they work together on smart routes and hard blocking — the group includes players like Jalen Williams and Sam Giles who have helped the team win games. The squad practices all week to be ready when the ball comes their way and break down opposing defenses.  The Herald-Times
