  • Kroger completed nearly $4 million in remodeling projects at its Bloomington stores on S. Old State Road 37 and Kinser Pike on Wednesday, spending $1.9 million and $1.8 million respectively to upgrade the shopping experience, and it donated $67,500 to a local food bank and $1,000 to a community food drive partner as part of its Zero Hunger — Zero Waste initiative.  The Bloomingtonian

CRIME NEWS

  • Federal investigators unsealed documents that show 42 items (like flight tickets and shredded paper) were taken from former IU professor Xiaofeng Wang's Carmel home on March 28 after he was fired, and the list for his Bloomington home is still sealed as the case is under investigation with updates due by Jan. 1.  Indiana Daily Student

CULTURE NEWS

  • The IU Auditorium is offering free pre-show talks for every performance this season as part of the 2025-26 program—talks started with a session led by Richard Roland before The Book of Mormon on Oct. 3 and 4 held in the Fine Arts Building lecture hall Room 015. These talks begin one hour before each performance and are free for anyone to attend.  The Herald-Times
  • Bloomington photographer Rodney Margison opened his solo exhibit 'A Little Extra Love' on Friday at Fountain Square Mall as part of Down Syndrome Awareness Month — the exhibit features candid portraits created with Down Syndrome Family Connection and will run until Oct. 31 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Indiana Daily Student

  • Childcare centers in Monroe County face cuts as the state lowered voucher reimbursement rates and paused the CCDF waitlist, leading to enrollment drops at centers like Jill’s House in Bloomington—providers warn that families will bear extra costs and centers may have to reduce services.   Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bloomington officials announced two open house meetings on October 28 and October 30 at 5:30 p.m. in the city council chambers to get feedback on two design proposals for the College-Walnut corridor — one plan keeps the streets as a one-way pair while the other makes them two-way.  The B Square Bulletin

SPORTS NEWS

  • The IU Health Herald-Times Football Player of the Week poll is open for games played Oct. 3 as voters choose their favorite performer from nominees in North, South, Owen Valley — and Edgewood until Oct. 9 at noon. Last week, Edgewood lineman Lincoln Getts led the poll with 57% of the vote.  The Herald-Times
  • Bloomington South boys soccer team won two to zero against Bloomington North on Monday, Oct. 6 in the Class 3A Mooresville Sectional opener by keeping North from any shots on goal, and they advance to a Wednesday matchup against Martinsville (head coach Jake Kabrick praised the disciplined defense).  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana volleyball returned to the AVCA rankings after starting 4-0 in conference play and posting a 13-1 season record under coach Steve Aird—freshman setter Teodora Kričković earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week after strong showings against USC and UCLA. The team will travel to Michigan to face Michigan on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. and Michigan State on Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Coach Curt Cignetti said that starting cornerback D'Angelo Ponds is expected to play against Oregon this weekend after missing the Iowa game with a lower body injury; he worked with trainers during warmups and helped in a 63 to 10 win over Illinois by blocking a punt (returned for a touchdown) and making 11 tackles (10 solo) this season.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana football expects junior cornerback D’Angelo Ponds to return for Saturday’s game against No. 3 Oregon as head coach Curt Cignetti said he should be fine after missing the Iowa game with an undisclosed injury. The Hoosiers, coming off a bye week, prepare to face a tough test at Autzen Stadium—focusing on fundamentals and game planning.  Indiana Daily Student
  • The Hoosiers beat Missouri Baptist on Oct. 5 at Andy Mohr Field in Bloomington. Senior catcher Avery Parker hit three home runs (adding to his strong season) while sophomore Alli Gavin (who helped drive the offense) and senior outfielder Cassidy Kettleman made key plays.  Indiana Daily Student
