- ➤ Indiana University’s Homecoming parade will start at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct 17 at the intersection of 17th Street and Woodlawn Avenue and travel south to Seventh Street featuring creative floats and live music by the IU Marching Hundred. A pep rally will follow at 7:30 p.m. in Dunn Meadow—spectators are advised to arrive early for good parking as heavy traffic is expected. Indiana Daily Student

- ➤ Indiana University announced Tuesday during homecoming week that it now ranks No. 1 for the largest living alumni community in the country — it has over 805,000 alumni worldwide, nearly half of whom live in Indiana. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ Professor Martin Jarrold’s new charge detection mass spectrometer will come to market in fall via a partnership between his startup Megadalton Solutions and Waters Corp—helping scientists measure large molecules to study gene therapies. He will also retire after a decades-long career at IU. Indiana University
- ➤ Indiana University fired Jim Rodenbush — the director of student media — on Tuesday after he refused to limit the Indiana Daily Student’s print coverage to homecoming news, saying that censoring content would be unlawful. Student media groups and free speech advocates criticized the decision while university officials said the move is part of a shift to digital media. The Bloomingtonian
- ➤ Staff changes at Bloomington High School North have cut more than 10 teaching positions and altered teacher schedules as the district responds to a new tax bill lowering its budget by $17 million and declining enrollment—some staff were moved to other schools and course offerings reworked, resulting in larger classes and fewer electives. These actions began about two months ago and continue to affect the daily routine for students and teachers. The Herald-Times

- ➤ Hoosier Hikers Council built a 5-mile extension to the Raccoon Woods Trail at Green's Bluff Nature Preserve in Owen County, and The Nature Conservancy will host a grand opening on Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. + The event will include guided hikes, a trail naming activity and special remarks with light refreshments provided in a reserved area. - ➤ Senior Sam Landau won five straight matches at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships held Oct. 9-13 at Purdue by beating Purdue junior Henrik Villanger in the semifinals to share the singles co-championship with Vanderbilt's Pablo Martinez Gomez. His win qualified him for the NCAA Singles Championships in Orlando from Nov. 18-23 and marked the first time he reached the event in his four-year career. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ The Indiana men's basketball team built a new roster under coach Darian DeVries last season and did not return any scholarship players, so they focused on increasing 3-point shooting and spacing the floor with versatile shooters—modernizing their offense for future success. - ➤ Indiana football improved to 6-0 as the Hoosiers beat Oregon by 10 points on Oct. 11 at Autzen Stadium, handing the Ducks their first loss there in nearly three years. Coach Curt Cignetti said the win means little by itself and his team must refocus for the game against Michigan State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Memorial Stadium — they will work hard to earn every win. - ➤ Bloomington South, one of only 20 undefeated teams and ranked second in Class 5A, will face 6A Center Grove this week—an event that will test their strengths ahead of the sectional opener—as key player Braylen Townsend reached a milestone by passing 3,000 rushing yards. Meanwhile, Edgewood, after its Week 9 game was cancelled because Irvington Prep ended its season, will use the extra time to practice and scout for their next sectional opponent. The Herald-Times
