COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Witch Faire brought families to Monroe County Fairgrounds where local vendors sold witch-themed goods, hosted tarot readings, and held a costume contest and trick-or-treating. Organizer Raine Hutchens said he will host his next spooky event — focusing on Krampus — on Dec. 14 at Switchyard Park.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Student Media Advisor Jim Rodenbush was fired on Oct. 14 after he refused to block news following a directive from the Media School, and the IDS print edition was cut hours later. IDS co-editors called the move a breach of editorial independence + vowed to keep reporting free of censorship.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation closed the Rail Trail at Rogers Street starting Oct. 20 for up to 30 days to add safety and accessibility features. The project includes installing a pedestrian activated beacon, a new streetlight, 12 foot wide paved trail segments and a realigned crossing—South Rogers Street is also closed and the spur to Southern Meadows remains open.  City of Bloomington
  • Today, Tucker Carlson is scheduled to speak at Indiana University Auditorium at a Turning Point USA event honoring late activist Charlie Kirk, whose message on free speech continues to guide the event. All tickets have been sold but standby lines will start at 4:30 p.m.—attendees need to be seated by 6:15 p.m.  The Herald-Times

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Bloomington’s new Hopewell neighborhood is set to reshape the housing market by planning 118 small homes priced from $175,000 to $676,000 with houses facing alleys to allow for smaller lots—aiming to attract both younger buyers and empty-nesters. Mayor Kerry Thomson and Flintlock LAB unveiled updated plans Monday night and local contractors have begun building the new infrastructure on the former Bloomington Hospital site, with homes expected to break ground next summer.  WRTV

  • Indiana football defensive end Kellan Wyatt suffered a long term knee injury on Oct. 18 in a 38-13 win over Michigan State—coach Curt Cignetti said the setback will force teammates Mikail Kamara and Stephen Daley to play more snaps as they adjust the defensive strategy.  The Herald-Times
  • A College Football Playoff projection shows that Indiana and Ohio State are expected to lead the field with first-round byes alongside Alabama and Texas A&M; the report outlines first-round match-ups such as South Florida at Georgia, Vanderbilt at Mississippi, Texas Tech at Oregon, and Miami at Oklahoma — setting the stage for a competitive playoff race.  The Herald-Times
  • No. 14 Indiana men’s soccer will start their final four Big Ten games tonight at 7 p.m. at Bill Armstrong Stadium against Wisconsin—coach Todd Yeagley said each game is key as a win could boost their standing in the conference—.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana beat Michigan State 38-13 on Saturday in a game where redshirt junior quarterback Fernando Mendoza threw for 332 yards and four touchdowns.   • Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti said UCLA is a rejuvenated team after recent staff changes and three straight wins — the Bruins now average 33 points and 233 yards rushing per game while Indiana readies its squad for the upcoming game.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana football will play Maryland at 3:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 1 at SECU Stadium in College Park — the game will be broadcast on CBS as the Hoosiers build on their recent win over Michigan State.  The Herald-Times
  • The Operation Football season ended this week as top-ranked high school teams played games on Oct 17 before postseason sectionals begin on Oct 24—detailed results from classes 6A through A show wins and losses that set the stage for upcoming playoff matchups, including teams like Bloomington South.  WTHR
