COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bloomington is hosting many Halloween events from downtown trick-or-treating today to ghost story readings and horror film screenings at local venues this week. Families and adults will enjoy fun events like a pumpkin launch, drag brunch, and dance party — offering a range of spooky activities as the holiday approaches.  The Herald-Times

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Late on Oct.22, firefighters responded to a fire at a storage building at Baker's Junction that was caused by a heating device used to warm two dogs and left the Haunted Train attraction undamaged for its 32nd season as scheduled (the fire was reported at 11:15 p.m. with no injuries).  The Herald-Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Businesses along Kirkwood Avenue are preparing for the return of vehicle traffic when the city will reopen the 100, 400 and 500 blocks on November 12 — Uptown Cafe will remove its 60-seat patio as winter looms, while other shops see steady foot traffic amid the seasonal change.  Indiana Daily Student

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jacobs Opera and Ballet Theater is presenting its Fall Ballet at the Musical Arts Center today at 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.—the program features four ballets including a restaged Chopiniana and Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante.  Indiana Daily Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A contractor will repair a bridge over Richland Creek near Porter West Nature Preserve on IND 48 — nearly five miles west of Bloomington—and one lane will be closed starting Oct. 25 until late November, weather permitting. Motorists will face temporary traffic signals and should use extra caution.  The Herald-Times
  • At Tuesday's board meeting, officials noted a 6% drop in fixed-route bus ridership as September figures fell from 301,909 to 288,823 rides. They also received an update that GM Development merged with 523 Development to form a single bid team for a new $54.4 million operations center to replace the old facility on Grimes Lane.  The B Square Bulletin

HEALTH NEWS

  • BPD will collect expired and extra prescription drugs for safe disposal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 25 at a tent outside the Kroger on Liberty Drive with representatives from Kroger Pharmacy and the DEA present. Participants will not need to identify themselves but should note that aerosol, liquid medication and needles will not be accepted.  Indiana Daily Student

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Peaches is a third-generation Nigerian Dwarf goat raised at the Goat Conspiracy sanctuary in Bloomington who now lives in luxury without the stress of being milked or bred. The nonprofit farm has shifted from dairy production — giving its goats a peaceful life with more freedom to interact with visitors.  Indiana Daily Student

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Monroe County's median home listing in September was $379,000, down 1.2% from the previous month's $383,500 yet 1.9% higher than last September's $372,000. The median home size was 1,922 square feet at $196 per square foot—138 new listings dropped 11.5% compared to September 2024.  The Herald-Times

  • Indiana volleyball will face No.20 Minnesota today at 6 p.m. on Big Ten Network and play Northwestern Sunday at 1 p.m. at Wilkinson Hall as it aims to surpass its 15-win mark—currently standing at 15-3 this season with key contributions from freshman Jager.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana football's special teams have jumped to a 12th national ranking after seven games this season, up from 105 last year — specialists have prevented blocked punts and long returns.   • Indiana football defensive end Stephen Daley transferred from Kent State and earned player of the game honors after a strong performance against Michigan State. He is set to replace the injured Kellen Wyatt as a starter against UCLA this weekend — a move that aims to boost IU's unbeaten run.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana's field hockey team, ranked 20 after two wins last weekend, will play Ohio State at 3 p.m. today and Michigan State at noon Sunday—raising their Big Ten ranking to sixth as they aim to secure a tournament spot at Deborah Tobias Field.  Indiana Daily Student
