CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Indiana University police reported that Alpha Epsilon Pi was suspended after three individuals were injured in hazing events between Sept. 20 and Oct. 12 on North David Baker Avenue, and Phi Kappa Psi suspended its activities after an incident on Oct. 15 that left at least two hospitalized—investigators are seeking information on both cases. - ➤ Janis Ian attended a screening of the documentary Breaking Silence at Buskirk-Chumley Theater on Thursday night and later held a Q&A session at Maxwell Hall with the IU Arts and Humanities Council—drawing about 350 filmgoers and 30 discussion participants to learn more about her music and creative process. - ➤ Alumni of the Indiana Daily Student, including 58 past Editors-in-Chief and several Pulitzer Prize winners, condemned IU’s decision to fire student media director Jim Rodenbush and cancel regular print editions, saying the moves undermined free journalism. They sent a letter with 380 signatures to Dean Tolchinsky and urged him to engage in dialogue—highlighting their long-standing commitment to independent reporting. Indiana Daily Student

- ➤ Sycamore Land Trust completed two new wetlands in Monroe County on Oct 24th to restore wildlife habitat and improve water quality along Beanblossom Creek—funded by federal programs and community support. - ➤ Bloomington is accepting applications for its Local-Motion Grant Program that funds walking and biking projects until Nov. 3, and nonprofits, neighborhood associations, and local businesses can apply for up to $2,400 each. Applicants will pitch their proposals to the Transportation Commission on Nov. 17—part of the city’s effort to boost pedestrian and cyclist safety. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ Bloomington city planners are considering a new Stadium District by Memorial Stadium to boost economic development and tourism by defining the area from the State Road 45/46 bypass to 17th Street. City Council postponed the vote to November 5 to address boundary concerns that include some residential areas — residents have mixed views on the change. WRTV

- ➤ Indiana field hockey defeated Ohio State 2-1 in overtime Friday after sophomore Mijntje Hagen scored the winning goal in the 65th minute—her second extra-time win following a shootout victory over Maryland.
