COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network is calling for community help — volunteers will support the Jill Behrman 5K on Oct 31 for packet pickup and Nov 1 for race day, assist with food collection for Fall Stuff-a-Bus on Nov 15, and serve as ushers for Constellation Stage & Screen shows. Community Kitchen will also accept food and financial donations at 1515 S. Rogers St. during normal hours to help feed at-risk youth.  The Herald-Times
  • PALS hosted its annual ‘Halloween with the Horses’ event on Saturday to show progress in rebuilding after the May 16 tornado — the festival featured horse activities, games, and food trucks that brought the community together. Executive director Christine Herring said the campus will reopen in spring with double the arena space.  Indiana Daily Student

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Speedway Fire Department Private Solomon Dillard-Rynard, 29, was seriously injured in a head-on crash on I-69 north of Bloomington early Saturday and underwent successful surgery—he is expected to fully recover after remaining hospitalized for at least a week and being off work for three to four months.  The Bloomingtonian

CRIME NEWS

  • Indiana University Police investigated three hazing incidents at the Alpha Epsilon Pi house that left at least three individuals injured and led the university to suspend the fraternity through a cease and desist order (effective Friday, Oct. 24) as a criminal investigation continues.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Buskirk-Chumley Theater hosted an interactive screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturday night to mark its 50th anniversary—fans threw rice, toilet paper, and other props while many dressed as film characters. Local residents recalled their long-time tradition of watching the cult classic and enjoyed a lively event that united both longtime fans and newcomers.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana University alumni stopped donating to the student newspaper after the Media School ended print editions and made limits on spending that hurt its student staff. They said they want clear rules on fund use and will support the newsroom in other ways—such as buying pizza—until the changes are fixed.  The Herald-Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bloomington is accepting ideas for its Local-Motion grant program which will give at least $2,200 to projects that encourage residents to ride bicycles. Applicants must apply by Nov. 3 and present their plans at the Transportation Commission meeting on Nov. 17.  WRTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Linebacker Aiden Fisher is expected to play for No. 2 Indiana on Saturday against Maryland, as coach Curt Cignetti said he is listed as probable after injuring his left knee during last weekend’s UCLA game — where he returned an interception for a touchdown. His performance this season remains crucial for the Hoosiers as they chase another playoff bid.  WTHR
  • Indiana football beat UCLA 56-6 after linebacker Aiden Fisher scored a pick-six on the second play that left the UCLA offense stunned. The defensive line pressured the quarterback 23 times and made five tackles for loss while UCLA coach Tim Skipper said his team did not recover from the error — with players like Tyrique Tucker adding extra force.  The Herald-Times
  • Readers can vote for the IU Health Herald-Times Athlete of the Week for Oct. 20-25, choosing nominees from North, South, Edgewood, Eastern Greene, and Owen Valley schools. The poll remains open until noon on Oct. 30—voters may submit as many ballots as they wish.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana women’s basketball debuted eight new players in Monday night’s exhibition win over Missouri S&T, 100-32, showing strong defense and fast-paced play. True freshman Nevaeh Caffey scored 9 points and earned 5 assists while UCLA transfer Zania Socka-Nguemen nearly recorded a double-double in 13 minutes of play.  The Herald-Times
