  • Bloomington’s Cardinal Spirits will release its oldest 10-year-old whiskey on Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. at 922 S. Morton St + the craft distillery also earned three USA Today 10Best awards for its canned cocktails, craft vodka, and craft rum, while Millie McGee’s Gosport Diner prepares for an upcoming feature by America’s Best Restaurants.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bloomington Book Festival held its second edition from Friday to Sunday at venues including The Dimension Mill, Morgenstern Books and Café, and the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. Organizers closed Madison Street—opening space for local bookshops and food trucks while a sold-out event with John Green and panels on book publishing added to the festival's diverse programming.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Childs Elementary, The Project School and Seven Oaks have been ranked in U.S. News & World Report’s Best K-8 Schools in Indiana for 2026 with Childs earning No. 9 among elementary schools—The Project School and Seven Oaks ranked first and fourth among middle schools. The Project School and Seven Oaks are charter schools offering tuition-free education, while Childs is a traditional public school with 446 students.  The Herald-Times
  • On Tuesday afternoon, IU School of Public Health held its second annual poverty simulation at Indiana Memorial Union in partnership with Circles Indianapolis and South Central Indiana Area Health Education Center—around 20 students moved through four rounds simulating a week in the life of low-income families making tight financial decisions.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana University scientists achieved a breakthrough in understanding neutrinos using data from the NOvA experiment and Japan’s T2K project—this joint study measured rare particle changes that may explain why the universe is mostly made of matter.   • IU Public Safety urged residents to stay safe this Halloween season by driving slowly, walking in well-lit areas, and using ride services instead of drinking and driving—officials also recommended using electronic candles and visible costumes to prevent fires and accidents.  Indiana University
  • IU provides free mental health care for students through Counseling and Psychological Services with crisis support and up to eight therapy sessions per semester—students can call 812-855-5711 while Bloomington residents may also use the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or visit Centerstone Bloomington’s Stride Crisis Center for help.  Indiana Daily Student

  • A new guide features Indiana-inspired Halloween costume ideas that will help Bloomington residents craft last-minute looks—ranging from figures like John Dillinger and Abraham Lincoln to pop culture icons such as Kylo Ren and Garfield—using simple DIY methods.  The Herald-Times

  • The Indiana women’s basketball team lost nine players after last season and now has a new roster with five returning members, two freshmen and six transfers—senior guard Shay Ciezki remains the only returning starter.   • Bloomington native Will Klein became a World Series hero by pitching the final four innings without allowing a run in an 18-inning marathon game as the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 6-5—he was the last pitcher added to the postseason roster.  WRTV
  • Indiana women’s basketball defeated Missouri S&T 100 to 32 on Monday night, marking a rare 100-point performance with a margin more than triple their opponent’s score—freshman guard Nevaeh Caffey played 23 minutes and scored 9 points while forward Zania Socka-Nguemen grabbed 9 rebounds, underscoring the team’s aggressive play before the regular season.  Indiana Daily Student
