COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Bloomington Volunteer Network is asking locals to help at the Holiday Market at City Hall on Nov.29 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 12:30 to 4 p.m.—to assist remotely with digital lesson projects at My Flying University and to serve as volunteers for United Way South Central Indiana’s free tax service from late January to early April—and to donate items to community wish lists.  The Herald-Times
  • Bloomington donated $46,000 to Hoosier Hills Food Bank to help local residents when SNAP benefits were lost amid the government shutdown, providing 330,000 pounds of food—equal to 275,000 meals for 84 partner agencies and mobile pantries. The funding supports families, seniors, and individuals facing food access challenges during this disruption.  Indiana Daily Student

CULTURE NEWS

  • George Koultourides and his twin, Vasili, started the Hellenic Dance Troupe at IU in 2024 to share traditional Greek dance styles; the group now includes about 15 active dancers and board members from the founding six. The troupe will perform eight minutes of Ikariótikos and Tsamikos at the IU World’s Fare on Nov 14 at 6 p.m.—it welcomes new members from all backgrounds.  Indiana Daily Student
  • At the Lilly Library, visitors can view a special Wizard of Oz collection that includes about 120 items—such as a first-edition copy of the original book and a 1921 board game—free to see before the Jacobs Live performance opens Friday. The library, part of the IU campus archive, invites the public to schedule an appointment to explore these rare artifacts.  Indiana Daily Student

  • Edgewood High and Bloomington North will perform in the ISSMA finals on Nov. 8 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, with Edgewood set to perform at 11 a.m.+ while Bloomington North is scheduled for 3:35 p.m. in their respective Class C and Class B divisions.  The Herald-Times

  • Edgewood girls basketball announced a new head coach, Noah Stuckey, as he leads the team in blending man-to-man defense with a zone system while welcoming back injured guard Madi Bland. The squad will test its deep, multi-sport lineup in seven league games, with key showdowns planned at Bloomington South on Nov. 11, Sullivan on Nov. 22, and Northview on Dec. 10 — building on last season’s promise.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana men's basketball begins its 2025-26 season opener today at 8 p.m. inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington against Alabama A&M, and coach Darian DeVries expects junior guard Nick Dorn to return (adding depth to a roster rebuilt with 10 transfers and three freshmen) as the Hoosiers aim to extend their unbeaten record against SWAC teams.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana women's basketball defeated Lipscomb 80-46 yesterday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington — senior guard Shay Ciezki scored 22 points and helped start the season.   • On Tuesday night, Indiana football debuted at No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings, earning the 9-0, 6-0 Hoosiers a first-round bye. The unbeaten team will face Penn State this weekend and look to match its record start under coach Curt Cignetti—marking a season of strong performance in conference play.  The Herald-Times
  • Former Indiana volleyball assistant coach Brett Agne got a two-year show-cause penalty after placing over 700 impermissible bets worth $327,000—bets made automatically by a computer program. His punishment also includes a 10-game suspension and a public reprimand—steps taken after he broke NCAA rules by betting on college games.  Indiana Daily Student
