COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Since mid-October, five houses along North Jefferson in Green Acres have been demolished for planned townhouse developments—rental listings show units available in August 2026 and 2027. CULTURE NEWS

  • IU professor Natalie Boeyink’s jazz ensemble will perform its final fall concert at the Musical Arts Center on Nov. 20 at 8 p.m.—the free event will feature 10 songs, ranging from classics popularized by Frank Sinatra to Stevie Wonder’s adaptation of "My Cherie Amour," and it will be livestreamed at LIVE@jacobs.  Indiana Daily Student

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana University Bloomington had more than 3,500 students study abroad during the 2023-24 academic year, earning credit in over 50 countries. The university ranked first in Indiana and fourth nationally according to the 2025 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange—its programs ranged from short-term courses to full academic year experiences.  Indiana University
  • Indiana University removed lecturer Jessica Adams from a required social work diversity course after she displayed a Pyramid of White Supremacy graphic, and the Indiana Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers expressed grave concerns over academic freedom—supporters have urged her reinstatement with a petition. The move followed a student complaint under Indiana’s intellectual diversity law and has sparked debate among those who say the teaching material meets core social work ethics.  The Bloomingtonian
  • MCCSC approved a new teacher contract on Tuesday, Nov. 18 that freezes salaries until 2027 and increases insurance contributions + expands parental leave while reducing the retirement match. HEALTH NEWS

  • Yesterday, students and staff from the IU Queer Student Union sewed and decorated a panel measuring 3 feet by 6 feet for the AIDS Memorial Quilt at the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center to honor those affected by AIDS; the panel will be displayed at the Indiana Memorial Union from Dec 1 to Dec 5 for World AIDS Day—teaching the campus about the epidemic's history.  Indiana Daily Student
  • A new fall report by The LeapFrog Group gave Monroe Hospital a B and IU Health Bloomington Hospital a C after rating 73 Indiana hospitals on infections, surgery issues, safety practices, and staff communication—details for some areas were not provided. This study showed Monroe Hospital has improved in several measures while IU Health faced several below-average scores.  The Herald-Times

  • Senior Brady Murphy led North's boys tennis team to a 17-6 record and earned a trip to the IHSAA singles regionals while finishing the season as the Herald-Times 2025 Boys Tennis Player of the Year. Coach Ken Hydinger said Murphy improved his serve—balance and mental toughness helped him overcome injuries and focus on a future in medical school.  The Herald-Times

  • New Palestine’s football team has won 204 games since 2006 and built a 26-game winning streak under coach Kyle Ralph who lost only 14 times in 13 seasons. They will face Bloomington South Friday at 7 p.m. in a Class 5A semi-state home game as the Dragons prepare for a strong postseason run.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana football remains ranked No.2 after an 11-0 start—marked by a 31-7 win over Wisconsin as quarterback Fernando Mendoza threw for 299 yards and four touchdowns—and is now on a bye week.
