COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bloomington will host Thanksgiving events with live country music on Nov26, a Turkey Trot run on Nov27 at Switchyard Park, and a Canopy of Lights ceremony that illuminates Monroe County Courthouse Square at 6 p.m. on Nov28 while local restaurants and Community Kitchen offer special meals and community dinners during the break.  Indiana Daily Student
  • National nonprofit Wreaths Across America announced that Rose Hill Cemetery in Bloomington has joined its mission for 2025 to sponsor 1,365 veteran wreaths but needs 590 more sponsorships before Nov 30—A ceremony will start at 10:30 a.m. Dec 13 at Elks Lodge 446 as volunteers prepare to honor veterans at several sites in south-central Indiana.  The Herald-Times

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Thursday, just after 11 a.m., Darn Good Soup returned to Bloomington at The Chocolate Moose, drawing college students and longtime fans. The business now offers eight to ten rotating flavors using original recipes as part of a long-term partnership — preserving its nostalgic appeal.  Indiana Daily Student

CULTURE NEWS

  • A 79-year-old Bloomington volunteer who made a sky-blue prom dress in 1964 donated it to the Monroe County History Center sale where 17-year-old Neva Livingston bought it for $20; Livingston later tracked down the dressmaker using a handwritten note—leading to an hour-long meeting—and the dress will be worn at her prom, continuing its long legacy.  The Herald-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A billboard along the State Road 45/46 bypass near Kinser Pike in Bloomington displayed a message reading 'Indiana University covered up the truth. What are they hiding?' set up by the free speech group FIRE starting November 10 — with an update added November 15 for both directions. FIRE said more billboards will appear if the university does not fix its free speech policies — a push meant to spark change on campus.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana University awarded eight research teams a special grant to work on new biotechnology ideas that may boost national security — one Bloomington team will use AI to study brain development while others explore plant genes, stem cell research and more to set the stage for future federal funding.  Indiana University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Porter demanded more details from the Family and Social Services Administration after it ended the Medicaid contract with MDwise while owing the nonprofit $313 million—he warned the change could disrupt care for about 300,000 Medicaid members who must choose new plans during open enrollment before a January 1 transition. He said lawmakers must explain the decision at the next State Budget Committee meeting and may introduce legislation to require more review of such changes.  The Bloomingtonian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana men's basketball won 73 to 53 against Lindenwood at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Thursday when senior forward Sam Alexis sparked the game with key free throws + defensive plays that led to a 7 to 0 run. The team will carry that energy as they face Kansas State University at 8 p.m. Tuesday.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana beat Lindenwood 73 to 53 today — Tucker DeVries scored 25 points while Lamar Wilkerson added 10, per the box score.  The Herald-Times
  • No. 17 Indiana volleyball beat Rutgers 3-0 yesterday at Wilkinson Hall—earning its 13th Big Ten win with a .455 hitting rate and 14 blocks. The Hoosiers will face No. 1 Nebraska on Saturday at Wilkinson Hall—where they will try their best against the top-ranked team.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana men’s soccer earned the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament, giving the team a bye and home field advantage for the Sweet 16—its highest seed since 2020-21. Coach Todd Yeagley said the team will focus on winning the upcoming game against either Saint Louis or Kentucky to advance toward a national championship.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Indiana football flipped former Colorado safety commit D’Montae Tims on Thursday, making him the 25th recruit for head coach Curt Cignetti's 2026 cycle. The three-star recruit from Armwood High in Florida — ranked 108th best safety in his class — was seen at Saturday's win over Wisconsin.  Indiana Daily Student
