COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bloomington Volunteer Network has shared several local opportunities that let community members help by volunteering at a free bike shop at 216 N. Madison St.—where no previous experience is needed—and by serving as ushers for the upcoming show 'An Act of God,' which will take place from Dec. 18‑29. Additional volunteer roles include warehouse support at Hoosier Hills Food Bank and donation assistance for Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, with contact details provided for sign-up.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Indiana University’s fresh production of The Nutcracker at the Jacobs School of Music, filmed live last year at the Musical Arts Center, will air nationally during the holiday season via WTIU Public Television—reaching 300 markets while tickets remain available for upcoming live performances in Bloomington. The collaboration between IU faculty and WTIU captures behind-the-scenes details and a full, immersive stage experience that highlights bold new choreography and live 4K performance.  Indiana University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The IU Board of Trustees will vote on governance changes, housing and dining rates for 2027, and a new post-tenure review process in meetings set for Thursday and Friday. The board will hold private executive sessions on Thursday before opening a public session Friday at IU South Bend’s Student Activities Center.  Indiana Daily Student

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bloomington South's Kyle Hankins and Eastern Greene’s Levi Carmichael were named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 2026 Silver Anniversary Team for their standout play during the 2000-01 season (recognizing their high school achievements). The 18-member team will be honored at a banquet in Indianapolis on March 18.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana football quarterback Fernando Mendoza said he is excited to face Ohio State safety Caleb Downs in the upcoming Big Ten title game. He added that Downs, who earned unanimous first-team All-American honors last season, is expected to make a strong NFL run.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana men's basketball will play Minnesota today at 7 p.m. at Williams Arena—Indiana enters its first Big Ten matchup of the season with a nine-game win streak over the Golden Gophers while Minnesota, led by coach Niko Medved, rebuilds its roster with transfers.  Indiana Daily Student
  • Bloomington North and South cancelled their gymnastics seasons because they could not hire a qualified coach, leaving Edgewood as the only local school offering the sport. Edgewood has revised its schedule and will hold its season opener on Jan. 12 at Seymour while practicing from 7 to 9 p.m.  The Herald-Times
  • On Dec. 1, New Albany beat Bloomington South 75-57 in a game where top sophomore Noah Washington scored 28 points and freshman Karson Stoudemire added 17 points—coach JR Holmes said his team played scared as many players had only played JV.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana women's basketball returned home after a 106-95 loss to Iowa State on Sunday — they will host Western Michigan at 6 p.m. today at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington.  Indiana Daily Student
  • The Indiana volleyball team finished the season 23-7 and clinched an NCAA Tournament spot for the first time in 15 years as five players earned All-Big Ten honors — including three named to the first team: senior outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles, senior opposite hitter Avry Tatum, and freshman setter Teodora Kričković. The team will extend its record-breaking season when it hosts the University of Toledo at 5:30 p.m. Thursday inside Wilkinson Hall.  Indiana Daily Student
