COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marsha Lovejoy from I Support the Girls received 301 boxes holding 100,000 pairs of Victoria's Secret panties donated to help women in need today. The delivery was expected earlier this month to support local beneficiaries.  The Herald-Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Straight No Chaser is set to perform its holiday show at IU Auditorium on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m., featuring a pre-show talk with Professor Michael J. Sammis & two hours of festive music; tickets start at $34.  Indiana Daily Student
  • IU Theatre, Drama and Contemporary Dance will present Faculty Dance: Body to Body at Ruth N. Halls Theatre Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2:00 and 7:30 p.m., featuring seven dances by faculty and guest artists exploring movement and emotion (tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students).  Indiana Daily Student

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Longtime BEDC President Jennifer Pearl is no longer with the organization after more than six years, and the board has not shared details about her abrupt departure — emails to her now return automatic reply — amid tension over housing and zoning with local officials.  The Herald-Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana University Launch Accelerator for Biosciences announced a $40M research agreement with Lilly, a move its chief called a new day for the university. The deal is set to boost biosciences research and innovation on campus.  Indiana University
  • Indiana University lecturer Jessica Adams was sanctioned on Dec. 8 for showing a graphic that referenced white supremacy + MAGA during a social work class at IU; she now faces written warnings and class monitoring while planning to appeal the decision.  The Herald-Times

SPORTS NEWS

  • Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza was named a Heisman Trophy finalist Monday night and will travel to New York on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET for the ceremony at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Appel Room — his season included 33 touchdowns and 2,980 yards, leading IU to its best record.  The Herald-Times
  • Bloomington voters can cast unlimited votes in the IU Health Herald-Times Athlete of the Week poll, open until Thursday, Dec. 11, to choose among local high school athletes from Seven Oaks, South, North, Edgewood, and Owen Valley; last week, Lighthouse’s Aiden Jones won 44% — from over 18,000 votes cast.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana Hoosiers fans celebrated their Big Ten championship win on Dec. 8 with a commemorative print from the Indianapolis Star cover available for order at USA TODAY Store — the team secured a Rose Bowl spot and is aiming for the College Football Playoffs National Championship.  The Herald-Times
  • Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza described being hit like a freight train with no brakes by Ohio State defensive end Caden Curry during Monday’s game on The Pat McAfee Show. Mendoza missed one snap but earned game MVP as he led the team to a 13-10 win.  The Herald-Times
