EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ IUSG’s Crimson Closet is a free borrowing service for professional clothing that soft-launched Nov. 3 in Ernie Pyle Hall and will officially open Jan. 12 for student appointments. The program, supported by community donations + a $10,000 budget, helps students prepare for interviews and events. Indiana Daily Student
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Warming centers in local fire stations and public library branches will open Saturday in Monroe County to help residents without heat amid forecast lows around zero from Saturday night to Monday morning (they do not provide overnight shelter). The centers were set by the county's emergency management agency. The B Square Bulletin
- ➤ Monroe County commissioners postponed the westside homeless camp eviction (Dec. 15) until spring, citing community concerns about displacing residents in freezing conditions. They will require a 30-day notice for future evictions and work with local nonprofits to develop better support. The Herald-Times
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Defensive end Stephen Daley injured his right leg while celebrating Indiana’s 13-10 win over Ohio State — clinching the Big Ten title — as Coach Curt Cignetti said Wednesday; he is expected to miss the College Football Playoff and the rest of the season. WTHR
- ➤ Freshman Maya Makalusky made her first start for the Hoosiers — scoring a career-high 22 points — in Thursday's 98–54 win over Louisiana-Monroe after coach Teri Moren adjusted the lineup following two recent losses. The Herald-Times
- ➤ Indiana volleyball reached the NCAA regional semifinals after wins over Toledo and Colorado and will now face Texas at noon today at Gregory Gym in Austin. A win against the No.-1-seeded Longhorns will move the Hoosiers closer to their first Elite Eight appearance. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, a Heisman finalist who led the Hoosiers to a 12-0 regular season and Big Ten title after defeating Ohio State on Dec. 6, prepared his acceptance speech after studying past winners (including research on previous Heisman speeches); he will deliver it at 8 p.m. Saturday in New York City. - ➤ Indiana University's Calamity Janes, the women's ultimate frisbee club, has grown to nearly 30 players this season. The team practices at Woodlawn Field (a safe and inclusive space) and competes in sanctioned tournaments with a focus on fun and fair play. Indiana Daily Student
- ➤ Indiana University fans have more travel options as three airlines add nonstop flights from Indianapolis to Los Angeles ahead of the 2026 Rose Bowl. Delta will offer an extra flight on (Dec. 30) while American and Southwest add services on (Dec. 31) with return flights on (Jan. 2). The Herald-Times
- ➤ Freshman forward Maya Makalusky scored 22 points and set career highs in her first start for Indiana women’s basketball as the Hoosiers won 98-54 over ULM at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall Thursday night.
