Folk songs proliferated in an era when singing was a common form of recreation. People learned traditional folk songs by listening to others sing them and then passing them on to someone else. The Salt Creek Valley, where Monroe Lake now lies, has a rich history of song, heavily influenced by the people who moved here in the 1800s from the Appalachian region. This program explores the history of folk music in southern Indiana and songs once sung right here in the valley, including audio recordings of local singers from the 1930s through 1980s.

Listed by State of Indiana (Localist), gathered by the Bloomington events calendar.
